Our promise
Noo has a short set of principles that come before every feature and every decision. Here they are in plain words, with what each one means on your phone, and where it stops.
What you share stays with the people you chose
- Noo only collects what a feature needs. Each piece of data has a line in the privacy policy that says who can read it and when it’s deleted. If it isn’t listed, Noo doesn’t collect it.
- In a circle, your posts, photos, comments and reactions are locked before they leave your phone, and only the circle’s members have the key. Noo’s server can’t open them.
- Before you post, the screen tells you who’ll see it and how many people that is. Nothing is public by default.
- Noo never asks for your contacts. People join with a link or a QR code, and there’s no "people you may know".
- Noo doesn’t keep your email address: only a code made from it that can’t be turned back into it, so it knows it’s you next time.
No ads, no tracking, nothing for sale
- Noo keeps no record of what you look at, for how long, or what you tap. It builds no ad profile and no profile of how you behave.
- It sells, rents or gives your data to no one. The only exceptions are the services that deliver things for Noo, like Apple for notifications, and the privacy policy names each one.
- The app has no trackers, analytics or ad code from other companies.
- Nobody can pay to reach you: no boosted posts, no sponsored posts. A shop only shows up in a place when its organisers invite it.
Your phone sorts, and you set the rule
- Noo’s server sends your phone only what you’re allowed to see. Your phone puts it in order, with the rule you picked.
- What you look at, what you tap and how long you stay never count. An automated test checks it.
- Every post has a Why? that says why it’s there.
- Noo has no streaks, no badges that keep counting up and no videos that play with sound on their own. Every notification comes from a person or a place you chose, never to bring you back.
- If how Home sorts or what Noo stores ever changes, the app tells you before it applies.
You can leave, with everything
- Delete a post, a circle or your account and it’s gone from Noo’s server within 24 hours, from members’ phones the next time they open Noo, and from the backups within 30 days.
- You can export everything Noo holds about you, into a file made on your phone: photos as JPEG or HEIC, videos as MP4, the rest as JSON.
- You can leave any circle or place, or Noo itself, whenever you like. Leaving is never harder than joining.
Security and the law
- Your data is encrypted on its way to the server, on the server’s disk and in the backups.
- If something goes wrong, the people affected are told what happened, what’s safe and what comes next. The CNIL, France’s data protection authority, is told within 72 hours.
- Noo’s server is in Amsterdam, run by Scaleway, a French host.
- Noo is for people aged 15 and over.
Where the promise stops
A promise is only worth something if it says where it ends.
- Anyone who can see a photo can take a screenshot of it, or save it to their phone.
- Noo’s server knows who’s in each circle and when posts are sent, so it can deliver them. It doesn’t know what they say.
- Places, like your building’s noticeboard, aren’t locked like circles: Noo’s server can read them, and every screen there says so.
- The email service that sends your sign-in code sees your address when it sends it.
